So What the Heck Is a Coffin Race, Anyway?

At Frozen Dead Guy Days, teams build their own coffin, load a teammate inside, and race it through an obstacle course at full speed.

Seven teammates total.Three pallbearers per side. One very brave corpse (your seventh teammate) who jumps out mid-race to complete a challenge, then dives back into the DIY coffin to finish the race.

From cardboard to pool noodles to 3D-printed creations, lighter is faster, but the coffin has to hold together. You race. You win. You advance. Until one team crosses the finish line victorious. Rivals return. Costumes get bigger, from Mario Kart to Dem Boyz (in Denim) to Horsemen charging in full horse masks. The competition gets fiercer.

It’s part race, part art project, part childhood imagination gone wild. A can’t miss spectacle and the kind of bucket-list memory you’ll be laughing about when you’re old. You only live once. Might as well race a coffin.

Music Lineup at Frozen Dead Guy Days

The Frozen Dead Guy Days music lineup takes place on Saturday, the official festival day in Estes Park. Live music is scheduled throughout the day as part of the festival programming, complementing the iconic coffin races and other on-site events that define Frozen Dead Guy Days. Additional satellite and community events happen throughout the weekend, but all festival-stage performances take place on Saturday.

Colorado Tourism Office Drone Show at Frozen Dead Guy Days

As part of a statewide celebration honoring two historic milestones, 250 years of America and 150 years of Colorado, the Colorado Tourism Office is lighting up skies across the state with a series of special drone shows in 2026. Estes Park is proud to be one of the selected destinations, making this the first drone show of its kind ever held in Estes Park.

This commemorative drone show has been gifted to our community through the Colorado Tourism Office’s 250–150 initiative, a statewide effort celebrating Colorado’s past, present, and future in unforgettable ways. For Estes Park, that celebration takes place during Frozen Dead Guy Days, adding a truly special moment to an already iconic weekend.

The drone show will take place between music sets toward the end of the festival, creating a can’t-miss finale that brings festivalgoers together under the mountain sky. Timing details will be announced soon, so plan to stick around—you won’t want to miss this historic moment. Visitors are also invited to explore other drone shows happening across Colorado as part of this statewide anniversary celebration, showcasing how communities throughout the state are honoring 150 years of Colorado history in bold, modern ways.

Interactive Games & Festival Fun

In addition to the coffin races, Frozen Dead Guy Days features a rotating mix of interactive games and crowd-friendly moments woven throughout the festival day. These experiences add energy between main events and invite festivalgoers to jump in, laugh, and enjoy another layer of the festival experience.

From cold-themed challenges like the Frozen T-Shirt contest to casual competitions such as cornhole and plenty in between, festival partners help bring these moments to life, including Odell Brewing Co., Muchin House, and Alcor, among others. Whether you’re participating or cheering from the sidelines, these activities are designed for easy, drop-in fun as the day unfolds.

Artist Exhibition & Art Sale

Frozen Dead Guy Days also brings art into the mix, with original pieces on display and available for purchase during the official festival day. Inspired by winter, folklore, dark humor, and the wonderfully unexpected, this is art that’s truly to die for—in the most Frozen Dead Guy Days way possible.

Featuring local and regional artists, the exhibition highlights work that’s just as unique, strange, and creative as the festival itself. From playful to eerie and everything in between, these pieces capture the spirit of an event where originality is celebrated and nothing about winter is taken too seriously.

The Artist Exhibition and Art Sale is presented in partnership with Aspen & Evergreen Gallery, bringing one-of-a-kind artwork into the heart of the festival experience.
